XSEED Games has brought Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin to E3 this year, with a debut of some cool-looking gameplay footage via Nintendo’s Treehouse: Live presentation.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is the combination of side-scrolling action along with crafting and farming simulation gameplay. The game is developed by Edelweiss and will be published by XSEED Games for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4 sometime this winter. Check out the gameplay footage shown below to see how Sakuna will play out.
The 21 minutes of the gameplay footage showcases Sakuna in action. As she is the daughter of the God of War and the Goddess or Harvest, battle and farming are her forte. Sakuna fights off animal demons like rabbits and boars with nothing but simple farm tools and her celestial scarf. She also harvests rice and each harvest will affect her playstyle, which is why you shouldn’t ignore the quality of the rice. The gameplay footage also showed Sakuna planning their meals, with each meal having its own benefit. She is also shown bonding with humans over dinner through small talk and jokes like a warm family.
The game is about Sakuna’s journey to prove herself worthy of her title as the Goddess of Harvest. She will take down the animal demons residing on the island and give plentiful harvests to the humans.
The features of the game include:
- Sakuna will bring down the animal demons with her farm implements as her weapons as she puts together weak, strong, and special attacks. She also possesses a ‘celestial scarf’. This is a magical item that lets Sakuna seize her opponents from a distance.
- The purpose of the village is mainly for creating weapons, making food, and planting rice as you follow detailed instructions from the moment you plant seeds until it is time to harvest as the seasons change. You will improve both the harvest and Sakuna’s fighting skills.
- The developers made sure to do their research in order to incorporate as much history as possible to the story. Sakuna will fight various types of demons, big and small, as she travels across each landscape enriched with collections of classic Japanese myths and legends.
- Experience the joy of giving the feeling of belonging as you go on with the story. Sakuna will know more about the humans and help heal their wounded souls.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will be released this winter for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC.
