XSEED and Edelweiss’ Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will make its way to Nintendo Switch this winter.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is the newest title made by the talented indie team Edelweiss, known for their eminent title Astebreed. It has been previously announced that Sakuna will be launched this winter for PC and PlayStation 4, and now, Nintendo Switch is officially a part of the list.
The title is a combination of side-scrolling action with deep crafting and farming simulation. You play the role of the proud, yet lonely, harvest goddess Sakuna. She has been banished to an unforgiving island along with reject humans. Her mission is to subdue the island by taking down its demon inhabitants. She then discovers a home in the mountain village. Sakuna will prove that she is worthy to be called a harvest goddess by having plentiful harvests of rice and giving a better life to the humans. This is both a tribute to the rich Japanese mythology and a glorification to the artistry of cultivating rice.
The features of the game include:
- Sakuna will bring down the animal demons with her farm implements as her weapons as she puts together weak, strong, and special attacks. She also possesses a ‘celestial scarf’. This is a magical item that lets Sakuna seize her opponents from a distance.
- The purpose of the village is mainly for creating weapons, making food, and planting rice as you follow detailed instructions from the moment you plant it until it is time to harvest as the seasons change. You will improve both the harvest and Sakuna’s fighting skills.
- The developers made sure to do their research in order to incorporate as much history as possible to the story. Sakuna will fight various types of demons, big or small, as she travels across each landscape enriched with collections of classic Japanese myths and legends.
- Experience the joy of giving the feeling of belonging as you go on with the story. Sakuna will know more about the humans and help heal their wounded souls.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is also part of XSEED Games' lineup of titles at E3 2019, in which we may finally learn more details about its impending release later this year.
