The latest alpha update trailer for Sea of Thieves has added to our understanding of the game, previously enhanced by videos about co-op mechanics and rambunctious treasure hunts, by introducing a number of new threats and places to explore.
Check out the video of the Sea of Thieves alpha trailer update, “Taming New Seas,” below:
“Within this indeterminately larger world, players will discover new islands presenting new challenges and opportunities,” the video explains. “One might come with a hidden cove to anchor in safety while you shovel up loot; another might let you perform a dring getaway after grabbing another crew’s gold. Just look before you leap, as fall damage is now definitely a thing.”
The expanded world and addition of more islands means there are more outposts, so players have more options for getting chests back to the Shipwright. “This should make it easier to avoid the ‘ganking’ that some of you feared during our first update, which is how the cool kids refer to treasure-related blunderbuss incidents.”
The remains of pirates also prowl the islands “with rusty guns blazing,” so crew members need to watch each other’s backs as they hightail it back to the Shipwright with treasure.
If you’re interested in trying out the next alpha phase, you’ll need to sign up for the game’s Insider Programme here. This will allow you to “shape our shared-world pirate adventure by providing feedback through surveys, and you’ll be considered for exclusive access to early versions of the game.” You’ll need an Xbox Live account which you can set up for free here.
