It was in last year's New York Comic Con when it was confirmed that Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match was arriving in 2023. It was also announced during that time that Joel McHale would return to voice Johnny Cage. Last week, the full cast was finally revealed, and it looks like we're in for a wild ride.
That said, here is the voice cast and their respective roles:
- Joel McHale (Community, Star Girl) as Johnny Cag
- Jennifer Grey (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Dirty Dancing) as herself
- Kelly Hu (Phineas and Ferb, Arrow) as Ashrah
- Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir) as Director
- Grey Griffin (Invincible, The Loud House) as Kia
- Phil LaMarr (Futurama, Family Guy) as Brian Van Jones
- Robin Atkin Downes (Arcane, Star Trek: Lower Decks) as Shinnok
- Matthew Yang King (Strange World, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II) as Concierge
- Zehra Fazal (Young Justice, Dragon Age: Absolution) as Jataaka
- Dave B. Mitchell (Ultraman, Monkie Kid) as Raiden
- Dusan Brown (The Lion Guard, Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Chuck Golden
- Armen Taylor (Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, Vinland Saga) as Master Boyd
The animated film also has Gilbert Gottfried (Cyberchase, Aladdin) as David Doubldy. This is, however, a posthumous performance as the iconic actor passed away on April 22.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match is the fourth animated film in the Mortal Kombat Legends series. While the cast has been announced, not much is revealed about the film except that it's set in 1980s Hollywood. The film follows struggling martial arts actor Johnny Cage as he searches for his missing co-star in a city filled with bloodthirsty fighters. The story itself is going to be penned by none other than Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon.
Joel McHale has voiced Johnny Cage in the first two installments Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge and Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. Cage, however, did not appear in the third film Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind.
While McHale has been lending his voice to the character, the live action versions are portrayed by different actors. In the 1995 movie, Johnny Cage was played by Linden Ashby. For the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the 2021 film, the rumor suggested that the celebrity martial artist could be played by Karl Urban.
