Bethesda has released its first patch for Skyrim Special Edition for PC players on Steam Beta, and confirmed plans for console updates.
Skyrim Special Edition Patch 1.1.51 Update includes the following fixes:
General performance and optimization improvements
Fixed rare issue with NPCs not appearing in proper locations
Fixed issue with saves erroneously being marked as Modded, even though no mods are active
Updated some sound files to not use compression
The NPC fix for the PlayStation 4 is a must. There have been weird instances while playing the game where an NPC will spawn in the middle of an object. For example, I did the House Gray-Mane quest and went to Fralia to tell her the news about her son. I went to her stall in the market only to find Fralia stuck in the stall. She wouldn’t move or talk to me, so I guess she didn’t want to know her sons were doing just fine.
There was another time where I tried to find the guy who harassing another Whiterun vendor and he didn’t pop up in the tavern. He’s a bard, he’s supposed to be in the tavern; Skyrim doesn’t have street performers.
The other update Skyrim Special Edition players will like has to do with the audio. When the game launched on Oct. 28, some users quickly took to reddit to complain about weird audio glitches. One redditor went into detail about the muddy sounds they experienced:
“I launched the Special Edition last night and began playing, but something about the audio seemed... off to me. I couldn’t tell whether or not it was a placebo effect since I was going out of my way to analyse everything that could possibly have changed in the SE, but I couldn’t help but notice that the audio seemed... muddier. Less crisp.”
Hopefully Bethesda will release a Skyrim Special Edition update for PS4 and Xbox One this week as well. Follow Bethesda on Twitter here for more Skyrim Special Edition patch news
