Ubisoft reportedly has plans for the future of its action-shooter franchise "Rainbow Six Siege," which was based on the story of Tom Clancy's books. However, Ubisoft reportedly will no longer make it a first-person action-shooter game but adapt what "XCOM" offered the world with its turn-based strategy experience.
Ubisoft: 'XCOM'-like 'Rainbow Six Siege' Rumored
A new report from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson shared that Ubisoft is reportedly planning another massive revamp for one of its top game and franchise as the company is said to be developing a new "Rainbow Six Siege" game.
However, it would not be your typical action-shooter set in the first-person point-of-view as it will reportedly feature an "XCOM-like" experience, which is a massive jump for the franchise.
Instead of playing as a single character in the game, users would now command a group of "Rainbow Six Siege" operators in this new experience, all focused towards a common goal or mission. According to the sources that leaked this new development, the closest similarity to this current Ubisoft development is "XCOM," a turn-based RPG from Firaxis Games and 2K Games.
Moreover, the sources claimed that this game reimagines "XCOM" with the elements, story, and experiences found in "Rainbow Six Siege," complete with its cinematic cutscenes and plenty more content. The sources claimed that its gameplay loop would be similar to "Rainbow Six Siege" in plenty of ways, especially when choosing the right operators to assign to a mission, and more.
There would be skills that players need to account for and consider when forming a team for a specific excursion, and this may lead to it making or breaking the campaign as they progress in the rumored game.
'Rainbow Six Siege': From Shooter to Strategy
Ubisoft is reportedly transforming "Rainbow Six Siege," one of its most popular action-shooter games in recent history, from being a first-person shooter into a turn-based strategy title that relies on tactics and planning. This means that players would have to take a step away from what they are already used to, particularly with an all-out action against enemy operators or forces.
It was revealed by the sources that it could also be compared to "Diablo 4's" gameplay from Blizzard Entertainment, with the action-fantasy role-playing game focusing more into a single-player hero fighting off against hordes of monsters and entities.
Instead of a first-person view, users would reportedly receive a top-down view which would give the players an overview of the action instead of stepping right into the operator's shoes and traversing its challenges.
The sources claimed that this new Ubisoft game is expected to run for around 25 to 30 hours of gameplay, depending on user's skills, but may have more because of the content, cutscenes, cinematics, and more that are coming in its final version.
