One of the top rumors back when the Switch 2 was unconfirmed it will feature Hall effect thumbsticks on the Joy-Con controllers once it arrives. However, Nintendo has now confirmed that it did not use the Hall effect technology for the Switch 2's Joy-Cons.

That being said, fans should not be disappointed that this feature is unavailable from Nintendo as the company claimed that it designed a new thumbstick technology for the Joy-Cons, which are still an upgrade.

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Don't Have Hall Effect

According to the latest report from Nintendo Life, additional details behind the Nintendo Switch 2 have been revealed after the April Direct event, and one of the most important details confirms how the Joy-Cons will be like.

In a press interview featuring Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Product Development & Publishing, Nate Bihldorff, it was revealed that the Switch 2 does not have Hall effect technology.

Bihldorff addressed one of the bugging questions from the press and the entire gaming industry about what the Nintendo Switch 2 has for the publi. There have been massive changes that Nintendo has previewed and confirmed for the Switch 2, and one of the major changes centers on the Joy-Con.

The Joy-Con controllers alone are different from the original ones as, instead of having a sliding mechanism that locks into place, Switch 2's controllers are now magnetically attached to the sides. However, while previous rumors nailed its magnetic attachment, it was previously speculated that it will feature Hall effect thumbsticks that are set to fix the stick drift issues of the original Joy-Cons.

It was revealed by Bihldorff that while they did not use the Hall effect technology for the new Joy-Cons, the company developed a new design for these joysticks from the "ground up."

And while they are not Hall effect, Bihldorff said that the gaming experiences from the new Joy-Con's thumbsticks are "really good."

Switch 2 Thumbsticks Are an Upgrade Says Nintendo

In a separate showcase for the Switch 2 (via Nintendo's Ask the Developer Vol. 16: Nintendo Switch 2 - Part 2), producer Kouichi Kawamoto said that the Joy-Con 2's control sticks are "quieter" compared to the original, further saying that they do not make noise when used to play.

Moreover, while flicking the Joy-Con 2's joysticks "quickly to the edge," it will still be silent regardless.

Nintendo has been touting the latest development into Switch 2's Joy-Cons to feature "smooth-gliding sticks" that offers overall improvements to the gaming experiences for players who prefer using it.

There are different gaming setups available for the Switch 2 as it adopts the hybrid nature of its predecessor, where it can be played handheld or via the dock. Players can use the Joy-Cons separately from the main console if they prefer a tabletop setup or use it instead of an external controller when docked.

Apart from its new design for the joysticks, the new Joy-Cons could also be used as a computer mouse for select games.
