If you're a fan of the Spider-Man franchise, expect Homecoming to be much different. With two previous tries to get the franchise on its feet, the creative team would have been dumb to do the same things over again. So with that being said, what exactly is going to be different? Let’s see.

No Uncle Ben Death or Spider Bite

Director Jon Watts told ComicBook.com the creative team never even thought about repeating the old origin story. Uncle Ben’s death isn’t a central part of the story and Peter Parker already has his powers, as we know from his appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

"We never talked about showing it, because the MO was always to not show anything we've seen before," Watts said. "If anything ever felt slightly familiar, to try to figure out if there's a way to avoid it or tackle it in a different way. But that was something that definitely felt like we've seen that before."

He’s Younger

Tobey MaGuire was 27 playing a high school senior Peter Parker and 29-year-old Andrew Garfield’s version graduated high school in Amazing Spider Man 2 . Tom Holland was 20 when he started filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming and he’s going to be a sophmore in high school, which means for the next three films he will still be in high school. The film also has a younger Aunt May who's more hip and cool than the previous.

Avengers & MCU Connections

This time around, Sony is putting Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe and he’s not the only hero. He’s got a mentor in Tony Stark and knows the world has other superheroes too. That’s got to be more comforting than thinking you're the only dude fighting big bads in New York City.

The film isn’t only going to include an MCU characters – there’s going to be plenty of Easter eggs and a bunch of relics. The villain named Vulture is after weapons and tech left from Avengers disasters. He sells it to street criminals. Pretty cool, right?

Villain

We’ve had Venom, we’ve had Rhino, we’ve had The Lizard, we’ve had Electro, we’ve had Sandman, we’ve had Green Goblin, we’ve had Doctor Octopus. Spider-Man: Homecoming will not repeat the past. There’s not even Norman Osborn or Harry Osborn. We’ve got the Vulture this time, and a few supporting villains to, such as The Prowler, Shocker (possibly two versions), Scorpion, and last but not least, The Tinkerer. In short, Homecoming is changing things up. All these villains’ lives intertwine and it will be interesting to see how Marvel/Sony is setting them up for future films.

The Suit

When Stan Lee and Steve Ditko first created Spider-Man, he had web wings. Tobey Maguire didn’t have them for his version of Peter Parker in 2002’s Spider-Man , and neither did Andrew Garfield’s version in The Amazing Spider-Man . Thanks to Tony Stark, Tom Holland is bringing web wings back for Sony’s third try at the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Web wings aren’t the only spidey-suit upgrade Tony Stark has in store for the latest iteration of Peter Parker. In a tweet from the official Spider-Man: Homecoming account, Sony released a video showcasing four new features of Peter’s suit. If you remember the Captain America: Civil War post-credits scene, we already saw one new feature included on Peter’s new web shooter: the Spider-Signal. It’s even got a heater.

-Upgraded Web Shooter with selectable web types and a laser targeting system.

-Web wings for smoother gliding.

-A GPS tracking system with holographic wrist display.

-More expressive eyes.

-A Spider drone

While the past cinematic Spider-Mans didn’t have any of these features, they also haven’t fought with the Avengers, let alone had Tony Stark as a mentor at the age of 16. Instead, Garfield and Maguire’s versions of the character used scientific prowess to sew and design their own costumes.

The Supporting Cast Is Different

This supporting cast is diverse and this time around, Peter isn’t keeping his secret from everyone. He’s got a best friend, Ned (who may end up with the last name Leeds and have a relation to the Daily Bugle if he’s anything like the comics) as copilot. As far as we know, Mary Jane isn’t going to be there. Zendaya’s character, named Michelle, is going to use the initials MJ instead. And Peter has a crush on a girl named Liz, who just so happens to be Vulture’s daughter. Uh oh. There’s no Gwen Stacy in sight (that we know of). There’s also the bully Flash Thompson like Amazing Spider-Man, but he won't be exactly like the comics or previous movie. According to the actor, he’s going to be an internet bully.

“I don’t want to be a physical bully or anything like that because that’s not really what happens now,” Tony Revolori told Hello Giggles. “It’s all about the social comments on social media and everything. And so how do you bring that online bully to real life?”’

Spidey Leaves The City

While there will be epic battles on New York territory like the Staten Island Ferry and Grand Central Station, we are also going to see Spidey tackle the Washington monument. For a closer look at some of the aforementioned footage, check out this video.

So there you have it. Don’t expect to see anything you’ve seen before in Spider-Man: Homecoming. What do you think of all the changes? Let us know in the comments.
