To celebrate the release of Splatoon 3 on September 9, Nintendo is releasing its first special edition console for Nintendo Switch OLED with Splatoon 3 Switch OLED model. The new console will start selling on August 26 for a retail price of $359.99, although expect some to be sold relatively higher due to console shortages and the exclusivity of this new release. The system was highlighted in action via the Nintendo YouTube channel, and you can check out the trailer below.
The whole console itself is adorned with Splatoon’s iconic graffiti, and the Joy-cons’ front plates are adorned in a brilliant, two-tone sheen: blue and violet for the left one, and yellow and green for the right one. The Joy-cons’ backplates retain their white color, clashing with the main console unit’s back – also adorned with graffiti.
The dock continues with the color scheme, but with one key difference: on the front is a light-yellow paint splat to break up the overall whiteness of the unit. It is definitely one of Nintendo’s more intricate Switch special edition models, and it won’t be surprising to see this one out of stock for quite some time.
The Splatoon 3 Switch OLED model is $10 more expensive than the regular Switch OLED, but if you’re a big fan of the Splatoon series, that extra may be worth it. However, one thing worth noting is that this console model, unlike some Nintendo units sold in the past, will not include the actual Splatoon 3 game. Splatoon 3 will launch two weeks later than the Splatoon 3 Switch OLED on September 9, priced at $59.99 like most of Nintendo’s other first-party titles.
If you’re planning on snagging this one but still want more Splatoon 3-themed official Nintendo peripherals, wait for September 9 when a new Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller comes out. It carries the same color scheme as the Joy-cons in the Splatoon 3 Switch OLED and retails for $74.99. A Nintendo Switch Splatoon 3 Edition Carrying Case will also be available on the same date, retailing for $24.99.
