In a Kickstarter update, indie game studio Infinite Fall has announced that Night in the Woods’ Jan. 10 release date will be delayed.
“Some last minute things have come up suddenly over the past few days and we have to push back the NITW release by a few weeks. It's all normal stuff, nothing is on fire, and it's all to do with the fact that we're a tiny team making a big game and doing a multi-platform launch is a whole *waves hands around* thing. Right now we're waiting on some info from outside parties as to the exact date we can launch, but it'll be somewhere in the first part of February,” wrote the team.
Pre-orders for Night in the Woods are live now, marking another reason why the dev team announced the delay. “We try to be transparent and up front, and it'd be kinda shifty to just keep this to ourselves seeing how close we are to the end,” the team stated.
Night in the Woods ’ premise is as follows:
“College dropout Mae Borowski returns home to the crumbling former mining town of Possum Springs seeking to resume her aimless former life and reconnect with the friends she left behind. But things aren't the same. Home seems different now and her friends have grown and changed. Leaves are falling and the wind is growing colder. Strange things are happening as the light fades. And there's something in the woods.”
To scratch your itch for this stylish, whimsical indie game, you can always take supplemental game Lost Constellation for a ride here. The game is described as a “ Longest Night ghost story” that lets players “travel into the frozen woods in a folktale from the world of Night In The Wood .” Best of all, you can pay whatever you like.
The devs warn, “This is a supplemental game, which is to say it's not a demo or a preview of Night In The Woods ... It's a tangent, a side-story, a way for us to explore a bit in a more off-the-cuff manner.” Still, it should give you something of a feel for the world of NITW.
