There have been massive issues plaguing Square Enix's mobile game, "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles," over the past weeks, and the company had to make the hard choice to shut down the app due to the problems.
It was revealed by the game development company that they were not able to fix the bug plaguing the game's in-app purchases, which led to users suffering from the issues.
For now, Square Enix has since pulled the game out from the Apple App Store because of the said bug, but there is no information if the app would be returning to iOS if the company fixes this "unfixable" bug.
Square Enix Shuts Down 'Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles' on iOS
Square Enix shared an important notice to gamers earlier today, and it confirmed that the company has shut down their beloved mobile game, "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles," on iOS after facing multiple issues with the game.
This was because of the additional content available to purchase in the game that allows players to fully explore all of the dungeons, which was recently shared by the company.
The issue began on Jan. 24 when multiple users reported that the paid content was unavailable to access from their accounts despite purchasing them via the in-app purchase feature of the App Store.
That being said, the company issued a refund to affected customers who already bought the additional content but were unable to access them. Only those who made in-app purchases in Jan. 2024 and later are eligible for the refund.
According to Square Enix, these other in-app purchases are also eligible for refunds:
- Full Version
- Moogle Arms
- Relic Arms
- Sapphire Earring
- Magic Wallet
- Special Arms Set
- Sherlotta's Crystal
- Yuri's Crystal
- Layle's Crystal
- Leo's Crystal
- Mira's Crystal
- Bel Dat's Crystal
- Chelinka's Crystal
- Chime's Crystal
- Memory Crystal Pack
'Unfixable' Bug? iOS App Is No Longer Available
Furthermore, Square Enix revealed that their in-app purchases model for the game experienced this bug, and the company has tried fixing the issue and implementing the new changes to no avail. Instead of still working on rectifying the problem, Square Enix decided to instead shut down the game and take it down from the Apple App Store instead.
Because of this, "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles" is no longer available to download on the Apple App Store, and users who have already downloaded it and are playing it will no longer have access as Square Enix also ended support for the title.
It should be noted that only the iOS version of the game will no longer be available.
Square Enix and 'Final Fantasy'
Square Enix has gained global fame because of its renowned Japanese action role-playing game (RPG) "Final Fantasy," whose franchise has already seen the test of time and is still one of the most popular in the industry. It is widely considered as one of the best action RPGs in the market, and it has spanned multiple titles and spin-offs that are still as popular as it was back then.
The mainline franchise of the game may be ongoing and has enjoyed incredible performance in the industry, but players are also anticipating the various remastered developments from the company, including the last chapter of "Final Fantasy VII."
