The existence of Stalker 2 became apparent back in March of this year. Although it was just a screenshot that surfaced on the internet, it did manage to do a great job to get people talking about the game and building hype.
Today, the Ukrainian Studio GSC Game World officially revealed Stalker 2 in all its glory. Stalker 2 is a sequel to the legendary Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. The game will be launching as an Xbox Series X exclusive and will be a part of the Xbox Game Pass program.
Stalker 2 received its first cinematic trailer that kicked off with the opening of a door before panning to the iconic Ferris wheel. The trailer also gives us a look at the memorable anomalies of the Stalker world, including floating rocks, static electric clouds, and gravitational orbs. Even though the trailer did not contain any action, it was amazing enough to send shivers down my spine.
Stalker 2 was announced back in 2018 with a 2021 release window. GSC Game World recently announced on Facebook that the game has yet to receive a specific release date.
According to the statement on Facebook, the cinematic trailer for Stalker 2 does not use an in-game engine, but the studio is aiming to achieve a similar level of graphical fidelity and atmosphere with the final release.
The studio has also reimagined the A-Life system to simulate factions and creatures in Stalker 2. The new system is called A-Life 2, which will enable countless events and encounters to occur in the world even when the player isn't around to witness them.
GSC Game World was unceremoniously shuttered in 2011 and it is unclear how much of the original development team remains today. The best developers among the team left GSC to found their own studios like 4A Games (Metro Exodus) and Vostok Games (Survarium).
