Star Wars Battlefront 2 has endured a barrage of criticism from fans and press alike, but one of the standout features is its Starfighter Assault mode developed by the vehicular experts at Criterion Games. According to a recent tweet, future DLC plans may include adding more space battle and combat missions to the offline Arcade Mode.

The tease was posted Wednesday evening after one fan without a PlayStation Plus subscription complained he didn’t have enough offline content to enjoy after playing through the campaign and existing arcade maps.

“We've already adjusted some of our plans for future DLC at Criterion because of the demand we've been hearing for more offline content since the game shipped,” Criterion’s official account tweeted. “We're working on what that content might be, but we're certainly not deaf to what players are asking for more of.”

What this short message implies is that more single-player content might be coming to the game. It technically could relate to modes beyond Starfighter Assault, but, because that’s primarily what Criterion has worked on, it’s likely related to that kind of action. The current slate of combat missions focus entirely on heroes and traditional battles, so it’d be a nice change of pace to expand that base to support a variety of AI-focused space scenarios.

After all, the single-player campaign and its latest expansion have offered up some pretty awesome sequences where Iden Versio and her crew take to the skies in classic Star Wars vehicles. In fact, the campaign’s biggest boss battle takes place entirely in the air. The framework is there to make Starfighter Assault Arcade missions a reality, they just have to be built.

Despite adding a ton of single-player content to Battlefront 2 that didn’t exist in its 2015 predecessor, it’s not too shocking that fans may be looking for more in the offline portion of the game. The campaign is at least mildly interesting for Star Wars fans, but, beyond that, the Arcade missions are pretty boring. They mostly consist of mowing down waves of incredibly stupid AI until time runs out. We’d also be remiss if we didn’t remind our readers that credit yields from Arcade Mode decrease over time. Arcade pales in comparison to the crafted sequences of the campaign, and it’s an especially dull stand in for online competitive play.

While it’s nice to hear Criterion hopes to bring more to the offline suite in the months ahead, we imagine that portion of the Battlefront 2 experience will always take a backseat to online multiplayer. After all, connected play drives players toward loot crates. Those loot crates could potentially push microtransactions if they’re ever reintroduced to the game. The Arcade offering will likely grow, but probably not by too much.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Its Last Jedi season of DLC is happening now.
