According to the March 3 Nintendo Direct, Splatoon is due for some love from Nintendo, with improvements, additions and updates scheduled through to April and beyond.
Splatoon improvements in an upcoming update include updates to lesser-used gear abilities in the hopes of making them more appealing and balanced. The new Splatoon update will also provide adjustments to ranked battle matchmaking and new Splatfest elements. The new Splatoon update will be released March 8.
The second Splatoon update focuses on weapons, adjusting existing weapons and offering new weapon set recommendations. The new weapon set recommendations are chosen by Sheldon, your friendly local weapons peddler, under the title “Sheldon’s Picks.” They feature a selection of weapons both popular and underappreciated.

The weapons update will release in two parts, but Nintendo only announced the release window for Part 1, so expect half of the new Splatoon weapons in April.
