Episode 9 ended with Fitz and Olivia breaking up and Olivia moving out of the White House and back to her apartment. Olivia missed a White House holiday dinner, which lead to an argument where Olivia expressed feeling suffocated by her role as pseudo First Lady. She accused Fitz of forcing her to move into the White House and he accused her of wanting him only when he was unavailable. Olivia reminds Fitz that she said they needed time before going public with their relationship; however, as we know, the couple was outed by Sally Langston. Fitz is currently unaware that Olivia skipped the holiday dinner because she was pregnant and went to have an abortion.
Meanwhile, Mellie held a filibuster on Christmas Eve, ironically, to advocate for the full funding of Planned Parenthood. She was able to complete her 16-hour legislative move when the Vice President Susan Ross came on to the Senate floor to ask a lengthy question about gonorrhea.
Meanwhile, David Rosen and Elizabeth North’s not-to-friends-with-benefits relationship continues. However, Elizabeth laughs when David attempts to give her a bracelet as a Christmas present. But Elizabeth shows a tinge of jealousy when she realizes David re-gifted her bracelet to Susan Ross. As we all know, Susan has a big ole’ crush on David.
In Episode 10, Olivia is back with Olivia Pope and Associates and their first new client is a member of the NSA. However, Olivia seems better suited to hold up in her apartment licking her wounds after her (umteenth) breakup with Fitz. But she quickly gets back into the swing of things, and even has Mellie seek her out for her opinion on a tell-all book Mellie has written prior to her presidential campaign. Olivia refuses again to run Mellie’s presidential campaign.
Olivia is in contact with her father again, who is beaming with pride as they have dinner together. Noting that people restaurant recognize her, Eli showers Olivia with accolades playing Fitz of having “had the oval.” She tries to downplay what she did; however, Eli is certain that since Olivia has has a taste of power that she will want more. It makes us wonder if the reason Olivia won’t run Mellie’s presidential campaign is because she wants to run for president herself...
