There have been 178 episodes of “Adventure Time,” as of Dec. 4, 2014. While the show has evolved over the years, slowly developing a continuity and ramming Finn in to adolescence, the quality has been unswerving. In fact, many of the best episodes come in later seasons. Created by Pendleton Ward and produced by Frederator Studios, “Adventure Time” still has a bright future ahead. With luck this round-up of the best 20 episodes of “Adventure Time” will be outdated in a few years.
We've already checked out Episodes 20-16.

The 20 Best 'Adventure Time' Episodes... So Far (15-11)
15. Adventure Time Season 5, Episode 20 “Jake the Brick”
Jake has fitted himself into a brick wall, determined to see “what it’s like to be a brick in a brick shack when the brick shack falls down.” Thus begins one of the quieter “Adventure Time” episodes, as Jake’s boredom has him narrate the nature he sees around him. Soon Finn is broadcasting Jake’s musings to all of Ooo. It’s hard to say just why, but seeing the entire world of “Adventure Time” united over Jake’s contemplative nature descriptions is one of the most rewarding moments in the show’s history.
Best Line - “If a definition of bravery exists, then this must be it. A lone bunny, facing off against the elements, ineffectually pushing around some twigs with his pink bunny nose, a symbolic gesture, perhaps, but sometimes that's all we have.”
14. Adventure Time Season 6, Episode 4:“The Tower” / Season 5, Episode 36 “Dungeon Train”
Deciding between these two episodes, both about coping with frustration and grief, turned out impossible. “The Tower” has Finn ripping off “South Park” to climb skyward until he can steal his father’s hand (it’s complicated). Finn’s anger is palpable and the visuals astounding.
Best Line - “Baby’s building a tower of revenge.”
“Dungeon Train” sees Finn dealing with his break-up with Flame Princess by dissolving himself in meaningless comfort activity (video games, basically). A vision of a wrinkled Jake accompanying an ever-angry elderly Finn is impossible to forget. But mostly, you’ll leave this episode of “Adventure Time” desperately wanting to own a Battle Moon.
Best Line - “This whole place is butter!”
13. Adventure Time Season 5, Episode 16 “Puhoy”
Before “Adventure Time” it would have been impossible to imagine condensing the landmark “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “The Inner Light” into a ten minute short, let alone while keeping like 60% of the emotional wallop (“Rick and Morty” gets it down to a minute, squeezing out a great laugh, but no tears). “Puhoy” does it. It also has a strapping Man-Finn, complete with blonde chest hair.
Best Line - “But you’re not making a fold of sense!”
12. Adventure Time Season 5, Episodes 1 & 2 “Finn the Human” / “Jake the Dog”
An alternate world where the Lich never existed, Farmworld, is the setting for this “Adventure Time” two-parter. Magic is scarce in Farmworld, even scarcer after the Simon uses the Ice King crown to prevent the fall of the Mushroom Bomb. This alternate world Finn has *shudder* nose. After some fun parallel world character action Farmworld begins to fall apart, necessitating the intervention of Jake and Prismo. Any episode with the Cosmic Owl is great.
Best Line - "Did you guys see that? You know that was a ghost wearing a dead guy?"
11. Adventure Time Season 2, Episodes 24 & 25 “Mortal Folly” / “Mortal Recoil”
The first Lich episode introduces the specter of real evil in the Kingdom of Ooo. Contrasting that with the Ice King changed “Adventure Time” forever. While the first episode, with its “power of l-l-l-liking someone a lot” sweater is better, the “Mortal Recoil” reveal of Young Princess Bubblegum is great too.
Best Line - “He’s casting spells: trying to get in your head and control your bod.”
