The lengthy casting process for young Han Solo continues, though Variety says Disney has narrowed it down to “about a dozen” named actors in the 20-30 range, with candidates like Miles Teller, Dave Franco, Emory Cohen and Scott Eastwood.
More interesting is that our new, younger Han Solo will premiere much earlier than the 2018 Han Solo movie. Taking a cue from Captain America: Civil War (which will introduce Marvel’s carefully selected Tom Holland Spider-man), Variety says the new Han Solo will have a cameo in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Cast May Add Han Solo
Rogue One: A Star Wars story gets away from Jedi and Sith, instead focusing on mercenaries and ground-level troops hired to capture the plans to the original Death Star.
Since Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set in the years before the original Star Wars Han Solo would be in his prime smuggling years. Right now we don’t know what to expect from his cameo. It would be too on-the-nose to have the Death Star mission incidentally cause Han Solo to jettison the load that puts him in debt with Jabba the Hutt, though that hasn’t stopped anyone before.
Disney’s casting process will be wrapped up in a few weeks and we’ll get our first look at the future of the past of Star Wars.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be out in theaters on Dec. 16.
