As Pokémon Go mania has begun to wane following its lousy new update, we're looking forward to the release of the highly anticipated No Man's Sky. The novel space exploration and survival video game arrives to PS4 on Aug. 9, while the PC version is delayed another three days for an Aug. 12 release date. That said, one devoted gamer has already dropped $1,300 to get his dirty mitts on the first copy of No Man's Sky two weeks ahead of time.
Redditor Daymeeuhn bought a copy and has been sharing his thoughts on the game over the weekend. Although Daymeeuhn intended to offer impressions that are as spoiler-free as possible, it's hard to keep a lid on one of the most highly anticipated games of 2016.
We won't delve into Daymeeuhn's gameplay experience (we'd rather be the judge of it ourselves), but his alleged play-time rises a major red flag. One of No Man's Sky's great features is its sense of scale—quintillions of unique worlds and the hundreds of hours necessary to reach the center of the galactic map. It all sounded so vast and promising, but took Daymeeuhn approximately 30 hours to reach the center of the galaxy.
"Contrary to what a lot of people think, I have done A LOT of what the game has to offer," Daymeeuhn stated. "I actually intentionally took time out of my warp jumping over the course of going to the middle to explore planets to break up the monotony of it. This does not mean I have done all of the major events, however."
Okay, fine. If Daymeeuhn didn't finish all the major events, then he didn't complete the game. That said, it's still a significantly shorter, smaller game than what we were led to expect. Somemembers on the reddit thread also voiced their disappointment.
"For this type of game though, 30-40 hours is VERY bad," noob_dragon wrote. "Similar types of games can easily last you in the 200 hours+ games for under half the price."
However, other redditors believe the short play-time is because Daymeeuhn is playing in a single-player vacuum in a game that comes alive from the interaction of many players.
"When I think about it it's not surprise that it took you only 30-40 hours to finish one galaxy," Norbi111 noted. "All of your discoveries are giving you max currency as they haven't been discovered by anybody else. All your materials are most expensive since nobody is trading them except you. This allows you to get upgrades in light speed, get tons of currency and buy whatever you want. This also gets you best hyperdrive and lets you to finish the game in 30 hours instead of 100. It doesn't surprise me you haven't died yet with all the upgrades either.
"This game isn't designed for 1 player. The more there are the harder it is to find something expensive."
