Team Ninja officially unveiled details of the upcoming Dead or Alive 6 World Championship. For this year, qualifying rounds will be done across North America, Asia, and Europe.
There are a total of 15 tournaments, including qualifiers. Players who participate in sanctioned events earn ranking points based on how they performed for that particular tournament. The points are then be placed on the official DOA6WC leaderboard.
Registration for the first five events are already open, with the initial event being The MIXUP in France on April 20. The competition then goes to Japan in May with the KVO x TSB 2019. The CEO 2019 in Florida follows in late June. July includes the VSFighting 2019 in the UK with the Summer Jam 13 in August, though no venue has been set for this event yet.
September features two events beginning with the Kumite in Texas 2019 followed by the Ultimate Fighting Arena 2019 in Paris.
October also has two events in the US, with the East Coast Throwndown 2019 and The Fall Classic 2019.
Once the tournament circuit is over, 11 players will be chosen to be part of the World Championship, with the top five coming from the U.S. and the top three from Europe and Asia. The winners of the offline matches, CEO, Summer Jam, and The Fatal Match in Japan get a chance at the finals. Two spots will be given to the Last Chance Qualifier.
The 18 players then compete in the Dead or Alive 6 World Championship Finals in Tokyo, the date of which has yet to be set. Up for grabs is a prize pool of $30,000.
All the tournaments will follow a double-elimination format. All games will be best-of three with the exception of the top eight, which will be played in a best-of five.
While there are no restrictions on the characters that players can use, the players who win a match in a match set have to use the character they selected until they lose the match or the match set is done. Players that lose a match have the option to switch characters.
The full tournament rules are available on Team Ninja’s official Dead or Alive 6 World Championship website.
