Publisher and developer Bandai Namco has just announced that Season Pass 4 for the fighting game Tekken 7 will arrive for players worldwide this coming fall. A trailer detailing the Season Pass contents has also been unveiled which includes new balance updates, new moves for all the characters, a new ranked mechanic called “Tekken Prowess,” online enhancements, and a teaser for what looks like the new upcoming addition to the game’s roster.
To start off, it has been confirmed that all characters will be receiving additional moves. Some of those moves have been shown off in the 90 second clip, such as a hop kick for Hwoarang, what looked like a punisher move for Kazumi which has huge pushback, a spinning kick for Julia, an Asuka mid attack that crushes highs, and new shoulder power crush for Paul. A move for Panda has also been shown, but it happens too quickly for me to make any inferences as to what it is. Balance updates have also been confirmed (maybe Fahkumram nerfs or Gigas Buffs? One can hope).
Next is the game’s new “Tekken Prowess” mechanic for Ranked, which is signified by points right beside your win tally in-game and right above your top stats in the loading screen. What significance it may hold is still unknown, but to take a guess, it might be a much more accurate matchmaking rating (MMR) than the current rank system. It could also possibly be a separate scoring mechanic from the rank system altogether, similar to the game’s Top Stats system.
Online enhancements are also on the way in the form of improvements on the game’s netcode. Also, it’s nice to see Bandai Namco and the Tekken team acknowledging the current worldwide pandemic situation, leaving the viewers with a hopeful message of “There’s always light after every darkness.”
Finally, and perhaps most important, we’ve been given a glance at who the new incoming character could possibly be. The last shot showed the silhouette of a ninja atop a pagoda, which could possibly mean the return of original cast member Kunimitsu. Other speculations are still buzzing about online, but the Kunimitsu's return seems the most likely theory right now.
Tekken 7 is currently available to play for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
