At New York Comic Con 2016 on Thursday, Alex Kingston briefly teased the possibility of a Torchwood reboot, noting she’s discussed the possibility of reviving the Doctor Who spinoff with her current Arrow co-star, John Barrowman.
Discussing her work on Arrow, Kingston said while she hasn’t yet had any scenes with her former Torchwood co-star, she and Barrowman have met up on set and hope to work together again very soon. “We are conspiring to... get the character of Diana Lance to have some sort of a relationship with Malcolm Merlyn,” she explained, then added, “I know that John is quite keen to try to reboot Torchwood.”
Barrowman, who played Captain Jack Harkness on Torchwood, isn’t alone in his enthusiasm for the Doctor Who spinoff. Kingston added, “I certainly think that if that were the case, well, hey, there’s no reason River Song wouldn’t just turn up there. What else would she do when she’s not with the Doctor?”
Torchwood aired for four seasons between 2006 and 2011, and Barrowman’s been working to keep the show alive ever since. He’s already revisited the series as a radio drama and comic book, and told fans at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year he was in discussion with network execs about “how we can get it back on television.”
Kingston and Barrowman aren’t the only members of the Torchwood cast hoping the series still has a future. Back in February 2015, Eve Myles told Cultbox, “There’s been talks about it for a while, but I’ll believe it when it lands on the desk really, and I’ll see about it then. I certainly wouldn’t turn it down. Anything with Torchwood is something I’d love to do.”
