Twin Peaks season 3, formerly known as Twin Peaks 2016, is coming out on Showtime next year, over 25 years since the first series ended. Expected to air in spring 2017, the revival has a huge cast and huge expectations, and it’s even finished shooting already. We know little about the plot, but a new novel from series co-creator Mark Frost, out this fall, is already shedding light on what’s to come when Twin Peaks returns to television.
Twin Peaks 2017 Plot: The Secret History of Twin Peaks Sets The Stage
On October 18, Mark Frost will release The Secret History of Twin Peaks, a novel that will explain, well, the secret history of the mysterious Washington town. Mark Frost co-created the television show and is a novelist in his own right, so it’s definitely something to look forward to. Frost hasn’t really said much about the contents or subject of the novel. Amazon calls it “a vastly layered, wide-ranging history that deepens the mysteries of the iconic town in ways that will thrill disciples of the original series, and will prep fans for the upcoming Showtime series like nothing else out there.”
So, yea, the upcoming Twin Peaks book is definitely going to be spoilerific for the next season—or at least it’ll set the stage for the long-awaited revival. In terms of specifics, we finally got a bit of an info-dump, although you should shy away if you’re worried about spoilers. Via fansite Welcome to Twin Peaks, the book’s French publisher leaked some juicy tidbits: The book centers around a box filled with clippings about Twin Peaks, and the FBI starting to reinvestigate what happened there 25 years before, and what happened to Agent Dale Cooper.
It makes sense that the lead-up to Twin Peaks 2017 involves the FBI beginning to investigate Twin Peaks again. The show is certainly going to revolve around Cooper’s disappearance and—hopefully—return. The novel is clearly going to set that up. The Secret History of Twin Peaks is out on October 18, and Twin Peaks 2017 is expected to premiere on Showtime in spring 2017.
