An upcoming update for Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 is set to introduce cross-play as well as 12 new subclasses.
The next big update for the game is Patch 8 and will add a variety of features and content that fans have been asking for a long time now. On top of the cross-play feature and new subclasses, it will also bring a brand-new photo mode.
Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 8
The developer plans to begin stress testing for the update in early January 2025. This means that players will get the chance to sign up for the test before that time.
Larian Studios will release the information for when and where the test will be available in its next Community Update.
When the cross-play feature comes out, players will get a chance to invite their friends to join their lobby directly, regardless of the platform they are playing on.
They will also be able to find other available multiplayer lobbies with friends who are on other systems using the Larian Network, according to Game Spot.
The 12 new subclasses include fan favorites who are coming to Baldur's Gate 3 from the tabletop version of Dungeons and Dragons. Others were homebrewed in the game, such as the Drunken Master.
The soon-to-come photo mode will give players a lot of options to customize and edit their in-game images. You will be able to grab a picture whether you are out adventuring, fighting against enemies, or watching cinematic scenes.
Larian Studios also noted that players can expect to see new abilities, animations, VFX, summons and cantrips, and unique voiced dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight. The latter is written reactivity for Oathbreakers, The Gamer said.
New Content and Features
Arguably the most talked about new subclass is the Monk's Drunken Master. You will soon be able to drink alcohol straight from your inventory. This lets your character harness the power of the Drunken Fist.
In Baldur's Gate 3's iteration of this subclass, players can share their alcohol with their opponents and then take advantage of their drunken state. Many of the new subclasses being introduced have various unique and fun mechanics.
The following is the list of all subclasses being added to Baldur's Gate 3 with Patch 8, according to Polygon:
- Bard - College of Glamour
- Barbarian - Path of Giants
- Cleric - Death Domain
- Druid - Circle of Stars
- Paladin - Oath of the Crown
- Fighter - Arcane Archer
- Monk - Drunken Master
- Ranger - Swarmkeeper
- Rogue - Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
- Warlock - Hexblade
- Wizard - Bladesinging
