The Walking Dead Season 8 introduced a new character named Siddiq to the show. We first meet him at a random gas station where a skeptical Carl tries to help him. Siddiq asks Carl for food or water but Rick scares him off with some warning shots. Siddiq runs away and an angry Carl lectures his dad about the way he treats people.
It wasn’t until The Walking Dead Season 8 episode 6 where we officially lean his name is Siddiq. Carl encounters him in the woods and asks him the “Rick” questions: How many walkers have you killed? How many people have you killed? Why?
Siddiq admits to putting down 237 walkers and mercy-killing one person. It’s enough for Carl to accept Siddiq and bring him back to Alexandria.
Siddiq is a comic book character, but it’s not clear how they’ll adapt him for the show. Siddiq is a deep sea fisherman in the comics, which makes him a huge asset because fish are a valuable food source. He goes out on trips with Michonne all the time, and eventually becomes Rosita’s lover while she’s “married” to Eugene.
But let’s hope Siddiq is more than just a fisherman. In the show, Eugene is now working with the Saviors. This is a really big blow for Rick and the other communities because they don’t have anyone with his expertise. Hopefully, Siddiq can be the new brains of the operation and help Rick take down Negan.
In the comics, Rick wins the first attack with Negan, but it’s not the last. Negan eventually engages in chemical warfare, infecting many of Rick’s people by using spears coated with walker blood. It takes a while for Rick to realize why people are getting sick, but it’s a smart move on Negan’s part.
Hopefully Eugene will come to his senses and return to Rick’s community. He can earn back everyone’s trust by helping Dwight overthrow Negan. After all, Eugene has figured out Dwight is the double agent in The Sanctuary. Eugene doesn’t like Negan; his decision to stay was based on survival. Eugene’s knowledge is the only thing that makes him useful in this world.
But if Siddiq is potentially the new brains, Eugene is beyond screwed. Rosita will never forgive him for staying when she offered to help him escape, even if he tells her he helped Sasha die before Negan could use her. Technically, helping Dwight is the only way he can redeem himself.
