Square Enix's classic Japanese role-playing game Secret of Mana is getting a remake for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and PC. It's a complete revamp of the 1993 Super Nintendo game, and it's been given a completely new aesthetic with colors that pop and plenty of new features.
The PlayStation Underground show, courtesy of the official PlayStation Blog, delved into the game in a large 13-minute clip that showed off the title starting from about halfway through the game. There’s a good deal of footage here that hasn’t been shown off before via official trailers or the screenshots floating around online.
For instance, the video shows off some of the party member's costumes, which you can get by pre-ordering the game. They're absolutely adorable, and include tiger suits as well as moogle suits. One appears to have green wings, while the other has light pink wings. They're prominently displayed during the special dialogue scenes, and characters are featured up-close-and-personal while speaking to other NPCs. It adds a nice, personal touch to the game that wasn't there previously.
Aside from the redone 3D graphics, re-recorded musical arrangements, and fully voiced dialogue, the game will also incorporate online multiplayer for up to three people. Square Enix hasn’t officially commented just yet on whether or not you’ll be able to swap between both English and Japanese voice acting, but hopefully that will end up being an option.
It's clear Square Enix is giving the game quite the injection of new content, but fans of the classic version can opt to pick up a Super Nintendo Classic Edition to play the original Super Nintendo release instead.
The game is currently slated for a Feb. 15, 2018 release in North America, so if you've yet to play through the Mana series, consider that a warning to go ahead and play at the very least Secret of Mana, so you've got something to compare the new game to when you're able to play it.
