The BBC has released a trailer for season 10 of Doctor Who, which returns to the air in spring 2017. Check out the new trailer below for a look at the Doctor’s new companion and her first encounters with time travel and Daleks below:
The new companion is named Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie. She appears bewildered by all the shenanigans in the Doctor’s world, but game.
As for the Christmas special, it’s titled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.” The Doctor teams up with a mysterious superhero known as “The Ghost” in order to save New York City from what BBC America describes as “floating alien heads.” Okay?
Justin Chatwin from Shameless plays the superhero.
Season 10 of Doctor Who is its 36th overall, but 10th since the show’s 2005 revival. It’s Peter Capaldi’s third capable turn as the Doctor, a role he landed in 2013, coinciding with 50 years of Doctor Who . He is the 12th actor to inhabit the iconic role of the Doctor.
“I have always watched Doctor Who at Christmas, even before I was involved. I still do, but now I watch it from behind the sofa because I’m terrified of my acting and my hair! But it’s still the centrepiece of our day. I wouldn’t like to deprive my family of that. Doctor Who should be on Christmas Day. It suits Christmas,” said Capaldi regarding the traditional Doctor Who Christmas special.
The Doctor Who Christmas special aired at 5:45PM GMT on BBC1 on Christmas Day. It premieres on BBC America at 9PM EST.
