Westworld is renewed for season two! No surprise there – the series has averaged 11.7 million viewers (more than Game of Thrones’ first season) across all of HBO’s platforms. Westworld Season 2 will have a full line-up of ten episodes.. However, HBO Programming president Casey Bloys says Westworld probably won’t make its return until 2018 due to “how the big the world is and what goes into shooting it.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Bloys had stated prior to Westworld’s season two announcement that showrunners Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have already pitched their script for season two. Bloys confirmed we can expect a mysterious, enticing story and originality, just like season one. If that’s what we can expect for season two, we expect 2018 to be worth the wait.
Westworld has created hysteria across the internet and beyond. Luckily for us viewers, Westworld isn’t based on an already existing story like Game of Thrones. We won’t have to dissect every tiny detail and compare it to the book or wait for another book to arrive.. And while some may compare Westworld to the original film by Michael Crichton, HBO really took the story into its own hands. Still, the season’s two direction may go beyond the wild west theme and into the Roman and Medieval eras like the movie. The paths are endless.
While we don’t have much to go on for Westworld’s season two announcement... we still have the remainder of season one and it’s everything fans have theorized, imagined and hoped for. Episode eight, “Trump L’Oeil” left viewers either shocked or screaming they “knew it!” Read the spoiler here.
As further developments arise, we’ll be sure to update you on Westworld and the newly announced season two. If you haven’t checked out Westworld yet, as my colleague Apolon suggests, it might be wise to watch Westworld season one when it’s over.
For now stay tuned and catch next week’s episode of Westworld on HBO at 9:00p.m. EST.
