As each day goes by, more and more video games are hitting the big screen. It seems filmmakers are now more interested in live-action films or series based on hit video game titles. And now, there are talks about Valorant getting a show of its own.
The success of Arcane, Riot Games’ League of Legends -inspired Netflix show, has certainly opened a lot of doors for the studio. The show definitely exceeded expectations and became a global hit. It even hit the top spot on the streaming platform in 38 countries. Due to its massive success, the producers could not ignore the demand and ordered a second season.
League of Legends is not Riot Games’ only intellectual property. Another one that also boasts very rich lore is Valorant, and since its release in 2020, it has had nothing but success for the company. From cinematics to artwork, the first-person shooter game has hooked fans and players alike to its lore.
It has a promising cinematic universe that one cannot help but wonder: Is a Valorant show coming? The short answer is a solid maybe. For starters, there is every reason for Riot to take the plunge and create a show based on it. Second, with its huge following – and still growing – skyrocketing revenue is almost a certainty. But if this is indeed going to be a reality, it will not be dropping anytime soon.
In an official blog though, the game’s very own creative director David Nottingham gave insights on the matter. “Arcane was amazing,” he said. “We’d be lying if we claimed not to have hopes and dreams of one day delivering something of that stature in the VALORANT Universe.”
Nottingham cautioned fans, however, that they should not be expecting any of this soon. For now, the developers' focus is on the game, yet Nottingham’s comments do give the community something to look forward to. That, at least, the very people working and developing the game cherish the idea of a Valorant -inspired TV show. Well, in the meantime, it is best to take these comments with a grain of salt. And if the show ever gets greenlighted, players and fans will know right away.
