Announced in September last year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to receive a next-gen update that aims at overhauling the game's visuals and incorporating technological improvements. There's no denying that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best RPGs out there, and even though the game is six years old, it has well stood the test of time. However, with the launch of next-gen consoles and powerful graphics cards capable of hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the developer CD Projekt Red decided to make use of modern hardware and overhaul The Witcher 3 experience for everyone.
While next-gen updates and remasters are becoming quite common these days with most developers enhancing the game's textures and models, CD Projekt Red has seemingly decided to use some fan-made mods for the next-gen version of the game. Halk Hogan, a renowned modder in The Witcher 3 community, was popularly known for enhancing the 2015 game version via high-resolution textures and models. The modder's work also caught the attention of the developer, which appears in negotiations to include Hogan's work in the next-gen update.
In a post made on the Nexus Mods forum, Halk Hogan said: "I have some good news, and the reasons why I was quiet and why I don't have too much to show. I think the most important news is that I got an official message from CDPR about cooperation. While it's not certain yet, it's very likely that HDRP will be included in the official next generation update."
Although it'll be great to have Halk Hogan's work included in The Witcher 3's next-gen update, I would personally like to see other mods as well to be introduced in the game. Many talented modders in the community have contributed one way or another in improving the game's visuals and other aspects. It would be a great gesture of appreciation from CDPR's end to memorialize these modders' works within the game and in the credit section.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's next-gen update is set to release in the second half of 2021. The update will be free for all existing owners of the base game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
