The return of the biggest MMORPG is all set, as World of Warcraft Classic finally gets a release date; the reborn MMO is going to be available on August 27, 2019, which is just three and a half months away.
World of Warcraft Classic is a faithful, if somewhat updated and polished, recreation of the original release of World of Warcraft back in 2006. It’s a great title for older players who grew up on the OG Azeroth to finally come back to the game, before its expansions took over and changed it forever. If you’re a younger, newer fan of World of Warcraft, this is also a great opportunity for you to see the game as it was back when it absolutely dominated the MMORPG scene.
For those who think that August 27 is still quite some time away, it is possible to play as early as tomorrow. Blizzard Entertainment, the developer behind World of Warcraft Classic, has announced a closed beta for lucky participating players who opt in. The beta is more of a stress test than anything, which is done in order to assess how the server will work under extreme load. Considering that Blizzard expects quite the huge turnout for World of Warcraft Classic once it finally drops, doing stress tests is very important indeed. You can sign up for the beta test here and hope that you will be one of the lucky ones to get in (you will need a Blizzard account for this).
The stress testing schedule will run in three batches, from May to July, so there are more chances for you to opt in. Here are the schedules for the upcoming closed beta stress tests:
- Stress Test 1: Wed May 22–Thurs May 23
- Stress Test 2: Wed Jun 19– Thurs Jun 20
- Stress Test 3: Thurs Jul 18– Fri Jul 19
As for the release of the actual build for World of Warcraft Classic, here are the global release dates:
- NA – 6:00 p.m. EDT August 26
- EU – 12:00 a.m. CEST August 27
- Taiwan – 6:00 a.m. CST August 27
Character creation will also open early, on August 13, in order to set up possible team roles with your friends and other players.
World of Warcraft Classic is set to be released on August 27, 2019 for the PC.
