The writers of The Fault in Our Stars , Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, are joining the X-Men franchise to help pen New Mutants , a movie about a group of eccentric teenage mutants learning to deal with their powers at Charles Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters.

New Mutants director Josh Boone (who also directed The Fault In Our Stars) teased the New Mutants team on Instagram back in May. So far, it looks like Warlock, Magik, Sunspot, Cannonball, Mirage and Wolfsbane will be the focus of the film. It’s sad we don’t see Karma, the team’s original leader and one of the five founding members. (See and read more about each here.)

While Warlock and Magik weren’t part of the first New Mutants lineup, they both have story arcs that run deep. Magik is the sister of Colossus, a mainstay in the X-Men comics. Warlock is the son of Magus, the leader of the aggressive extraterrestrial race Technarchy.

X-Men’s Simon Kinberg will executive produce New Mutants and revealed in May, “ We have a really good script and I'm hoping to shoot that sometime real soon too.”

Early reports had Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Wolfsbane, and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as Magik. However, Fox disappointed fans when the rumors were shot down at the end of March. Charles Xavier and a younger Storm, played by Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse , are also attached to the film.

There are three open release date spots for unnamed Marvel and X-Men films in late 2017 and early 2018. New Mutants will fight for a spot alongside Deadpool 2 . X-Force or Gambit may follow.
