Earlier this week, Official PlayStation Magazine reported Creative Assembly is developing a sequel to the tense horror game Alien: Isolation . A new report, this time from Eurogamer, now claims that isn’t true. So what’s the deal?
Sadly, Eurogamer is probably right on this one. According to the publication’s sources, Creative Assembly has moved onto the next game after delivering Halo Wars 2, but that game isn’t an Alien game. This new game is also a few years away from release, seeing as how development is just starting now.
Additionally, Eurogamer also notes the credits for Alien: Isolation and Halo Wars 2 feature many new names and few familiar ones. The few names that do appear on both are typically found in the “Special Thanks” section of Halo Wars 2. This means that the main development team behind Alien: Isolation probably have moved to new positions or companies.
"Currently the studio is fully focused on the development of Total War: Warhammer 2 and other as yet unannounced projects," Sega told Eurogamer when asked for comment.
As for the original rumor, Official PlayStation Magazine isn’t giving up its sources. "We can't talk in any more detail about aspects of the Rumour Machine section of the magazine," editor Ian Dean told Eurogamer.
SEGA has mentioned on multiple occasions that Alien: Isolation didn’t sell well enough to immediately get a sequel in development, and thought about a sequel never became plans. " Alien: Isolation 2 is not out of the question, because we're so proud of it and there's possibly more to be said,” SEGA Europe COO Jurgen Post told GamesIndustry.biz. “But do we really want to be spending very significant amounts of money, and getting close to break-even or just about in the black?”
As for what’s really happening over at Creative Assembly, the smart move is to just wait until the company makes an official announcement. Seeing as how development is focused on Total War: Warhammer 2 and a new historical Total War game, a reveal would be months or years away, if it is coming at all.
So what do you think? Do you want to see a new Alien: Isolation game from Creative Assembly? Would you mind if a sequel wasn’t developed by Creative Assembly? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
