'Roblox' Is Pushing for Ads on the Platform, But It Will Reward Players with In-Game Currency and More

The free-to-play online game "Roblox" is now pushing for a new program on its platform which will focus on advertisements, but it is unlike the usual setup. "Roblox" will only offer ads as an opt-in for players, which means users may choose or choose not to watch the ads. Doing so will offer rewards for players like in-game currency or others.

Moreover, "Roblox" is also expanding on other forms of ads to show on the platform in partnership with Google, which will roll out soon for players to see in-game.

'Roblox' Is Pushing Ads: Players to Receive Rewards by Watching

A new announcement from the Roblox Corporation is introducing a new experience on its online gaming platform, available to almost all players. This is because ads are now set to appear in the different online gaming experiences of the platform video game, including its game creation experiences that the company introduced in its IAB PlayFronts event.

First, "Roblox" is introducing new "Rewarded Video" ads which will focus on offering full-screen video ads to users that would typically last around 30 seconds. Users would not be given a choice to end the ad earlier than 30 seconds if they opted-in, and this is because "Roblox" is leveraging in-game rewards to players, which they can claim after they finish watching the video.

This is similar to the many free-to-play or "freemium" games in the market which rely on ads and in-app purchases for revenue, with users either given the chance to opt-in and watch video ads to receive special items or currencies in the game. The company revealed that players are guaranteed different kinds of rewards depending on their request, meaning that they could opt to watch ads in exchange for "Robux," its in-game currency, or other types of power-ups.

Third-party advertisers may purchase programmatic ads via Google's advertising solutions or by directly buying from Direct IO, which the Roblox Corporation is currently setting up and will be available in the coming weeks.

More 'Roblox' Ads Are Coming as Part of Google's New Format

The new ad-centered program from "Roblox" does not end here. According to the company, it also has other ways of showing ads in-game in its latest program apart from the Rewarded Video ads.

The company has announced its partnership with Google which expands its "Immersive Ads" campaign that centers on a new format when it appears in-game. According to Google, its presence on "Roblox" will appear intuitively and avoid disrupting the game's design and operations by showing these advertisements on a billboard when exploring "Roblox's" virtual city and other formats.

Furthermore, "Roblox" revealed that it will begin selling ads through Google's ad services in the coming months, which will appear on the home page, in-game billboards, and more.
