AMD announced two new Ryzen 9 chips earlier this morning that have been built for laptops. The CPUs are the Ryzen 9 4900H and 4900HS. These two new chips are considered to be the top-performing CPUs from AMD's mobile chip lineup. Both of these CPUs are based on AMD's latest 7nm Zen 2 architecture and it seems that team red is aiming to compete with Intel's Core i9 laptop series. AMD says that we should see new laptops with Ryzen 9 4000 series CPUs sometime this Spring.
Even though these two chips are capable of powering gaming desktop PCs, it's nice to see that AMD has shown some love to eager laptop fans. AMD has stated that the Ryzen 9 4900HS will be powering the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop. We talked about the laptop some time ago, and if you missed catching up on it, make sure you check it out by visiting here.
The Ryzen 9 4900HS is an eight-core and 16-thread processor with a mindblowing 35W TDP. The processor comes clocked at 3.0 GHz, but its clocks can boost up to a whopping 4.3 GHz. On the other hand, the Ryzen 9 4900H is also an eight-core, 16 threads processor, but it has a slightly higher TDP of 45W and a slightly higher base clock of 3.3GHz and boost clock up to 4.4GHz.
Even though AMD hasn't let reviewers get their hands on either of these chips, the company was confident enough to state that these new mobile chips offer superior performance compared to their Intel counterparts. According to AMD's benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 4900HS outperforms the Intel Core i9-9880H by 28% on Cinebench tests, 23% in video encoding, and 32% on audio encoding.
The company has also stated that pairing the 4900HS with an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q will allow gamers to enjoy a number of AAA titles like Far Cry 5, Hitman and Rise of the Tomb Raider at well over 90FPS.
Both the 4900HS and 4900H will benefit from AMD's SmartShift technology, which enables the laptop to switch between CPU and GPU to optimize power and efficiency.
