Angry Birds Action!, Rovio’s newest birds-themed pinball game released Thursday. In honor of the game’s release and the upcoming Angry Birds movie, Rovio announced a whole treasure trove of Angry Birds Easter eggs and exclusive content that can only be unlocked discovering and scanning hidden BirdCodes found on a variety of Angry Birds-related products.
The Angry Birds Easter egg codes can unlock everything from mini-games to special characters, powerups and even an additional movie clip not included in the upcoming Angry Birds Movie. While a full listing of places or products that you can find Angry Bird codes in/on hasn’t been revealed, the company did report that over a billion codes have been printed on products around the world. These codes unlock over 24 pieces of exclusive content and games. Below we’ve put together a list of the known places and product that have scannable Angry Birds codes along with a quick tutorial on how to use the codes to unlock new content. Angry Birds Movie Credits
If you go to see the Angry Birds Movie in theaters (releasing May 20) and stay to see the credits, you can unlock an unseen movie clip and extra levels in the Angry Birds Action game, by opening the game when you see the red Angry Bird logo come on the screen (pictured above).
Angry Birds LEGO Sets
There are six Angry Birds LEGO sets that have released in honor of the Angry Birds movie. A different exclusive augmented-reality mini-game can be unlocked by scanning the BirdCode found on the last page of the building guide. The qualifying sets are:
- Piggy Pirate Ship
- Piggy City Teardown
- King Pig’s Castle
- Bird Island Egg Heist
- Piggy Car Escape
- Piggy Plane Attack
McDonald’s
McDonald’s will have exclusive “Whack-a-Pig” mini-games that can be unlocked by scanning BirdCodes found on the sides of Happy Meal boxes, cups, cups, wrappers and trayliners. There is also a feature that allows you to take selfies with Angry Birds characters after scanning the codes.
H&M Apparel
Certain Angry Birds clothing at H&M apparel include scannable BirdCodes on them (ex: one Angry Birds T-Shirt has a code on the left shoulder blade) that unlock and endless runner mini-game.
PEZ Candy Dispensers
Find an exclusive virtual PEZ candy flinging game by scanning the BirdCode on Angry Birds Movie PEZ dispensers.
Retailers
A number of major retailers like Walmart and Toys R Us will have scannable BirdCodes on display. These codes unlock exclusive powerups and characters along with a key to a mystery box in the game.
Consumer Products
Only one product has been named in this category so far – Peperami in Europe. If you find an Angry Birds BirdCode on a product, however, scanning it will unlock an augmented-reality Egg Hunt.
How To Scan Angry Birds BirdCodes
- Open the Angry Birds Action! Game.
- On the left-hand side of the screen are four circular icons. Tap on the icon with an Angry Birds face.
- If you have not allowed the game access to the camera, it will ask you to now. Allow access.
- A camera screen the says “scanning” will appear.
- Point your phone at the BirdCode until the scanner recognizes it.
- Your new content will now be unlocked.
