Is your Apple TV YouTube app not working after updating to tvOS 9.2? Google knows about the stuttering and lag issues plaguing its tvOS Youtube app, but a fix is still in the works. A community representative has posted confirmation in various threads in YouTube’s help forums, but said nothing much more than “We are aware of the issue and working on it.”
iDigitalTimes has requested a comment from YouTube’s press office regarding the issue, and what Apple TV users should do as a stopgap, but have not received a response yet. In the meantime, there are two things you can try to do to see if you can get YouTube working on your Apple TV.
The first is the go-to troubleshooting guide: Delete the app and restart your Apple TV. Before you do that though, try just restarting the app. You can do this double clicking the TV button on your Siri Apple TV Remote and swiping up on the YouTube app in the app switcher.
If you’re not having any luck, try deleting the YouTube app. You can do this by holding down on Siri Apple TV Remote’s touchpad until the app icons start wobbling. Then, navigate over to the YouTube app and press the Play/Pause button to delete it.
Once you’ve done this, restart your Apple TV. You can do this by navigating to the Settings menu, then System and selecting Restart. After your Apple TV has restarted, reinstall the YouTube App and hope for the best.
If the best wasn’t the greatest, thankfully there’s one more thing you can try: AirPlay. Apple TV users are reporting that YouTube still works great on the Apple TV is the video is being AirPlayed from an iOS device.
YouTube even has an official iOS app that you can sign into if you want to keep your profile’s subscriptions, but videos can be AirPlayed via Mobile Safari as well.
