Apple’s first media event of the year took place on Monday afternoon at the company’s Town Hall in Cupertino, Calif. The company made several major announcements, including the new line of Apple Watch wristbands and a price drop for the device.
Apple announced that the Apple Watch is the top-selling smart watch in the world since it debuted last year. “People love changing the band,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, adding that there will be new colors for the Sport band, new leather band colors and a new Space Black version of the Milanese Loop band.
There will also be an all-new band material.
“Today we are introducing brand new colors and a new band made up of new material: our new woven nylon band,” said Cook. “Our new woven nylon band features unique 4-layer construction and comes in a variety of new colors.”
In addition to band updates, Cook announced that there will be a drop in the price of the Apple Watch.
“We want even more people to enjoy Apple Watch and what it can do for them,” said Cook. “Beginning today, Apple Watch begins at $299.”
