The latest Nintendo Direct held a plethora of exciting news and announcements for the Nintendo Switch, with classics getting ported for the console and new developments on upcoming releases.
There are a lot of big ports coming out for the Switch, like CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 and the recently revealed Overwatch from Blizzard. Joining the hype is Ubisoft, who will be releasing not one, but two Assassin’s Creed games for the Nintendo Switch. The collection will be called Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection, featuring the two games in the series that most heavily feature naval combat: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered. The collection will be released this December, and along with the announcement came a new trailer, which you can check out below.
The trailer did show some gameplay footage from both games running on the Switch, and with the two being relatively older titles it’s to be expected that the Switch handles them well enough. There were no stutters of any kind, but there are some lowered textures here and there when it came to the water, so that’s something to consider.
What’s also left to think about is how the two games will ultimately run on release. Earlier this year, Ubisoft also released Assassin’s Creed III for the Switch, and its performance was just bad, to say the least. It remains to be seen if what was shown in the trailers will be representative of the game at launch, but as it stands it wouldn’t hurt to wait a bit to see if it holds up.
It’s also pretty weird that Ubisoft did not include Assassin’s Creed III in this collection, seeing as the three games are all connected by the Kenway line of Assassins. That said, fans of the naval combat of the two games will be pleased at this release, and let’s hope everything goes well for Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection in December.
Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection will be released on December 6 for the Nintendo Switch.
