A live concert event series in Tokyo announced this Sunday that Attack on Titan Season 3 is scheduled for a July 2018 release date. The official Attack on Titan website later confirmed the Season 3 release date announcement (check it out here).
There’s also a tantalizing new teaser image featuring a bound Eren Jaeger on a crystal pillar with Levi in his 3DMG at the pillar’s base. You can check out the image below:
Manga readers will recognize the person framing the shot for their distinctive guns. While Levi was injured for most of Season 2, he’ll be back in action for Season 3 and we can expect some very cool action scenes featuring Humanity’s Strongest Soldier. No spoilers, but hey, who do we know who’d bring a sword to a gun fight?
After the years-long hiatus between Season 1 of Attack on Titan in April 2013 and Season 2 in April 2017, Wit Studio appears to be hustling to make sure fans aren’t kept waiting. While a July 2018 release date sounds great in theory, is it realistic? Will Wit Studio delay the premiere to late 2018 or even early 2019 in the same fashion as Season 2’s many delays, or should we just trust their word?
Or is Wit Studio committing to a longer, 25-episode season after Season 2’s 12 mere episodes, less than half of Season 1’s 25 episode order? During Anime Expo 2017, Funimation announced the Season 3 release date as Spring 2018. July 2018 is a season later than expected, but here’s an official clip from Funimation that shows some preview images for Season 3:
Wit Studio also plans to release new compilation film titled The Roar of Awakening, which catches viewers up on the events of Season 2. Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama will draw an original illustration for the film as a bonus for attendees. The compilation film airs in Japanese theatres on Jan. 13, 2018.
Two previous compilation films debuted in 2014 and 2015, condensing the events of Season 1. Funimation released the recap movies, Guren no Yumiya and Jiyuu no Tsubasa, in theatres prior to the Attack on Titan Season 2 premiere, but there’s no word yet whether similar plans exist for the newly-announced third recap movie.
Attack on Titan is produced by Wit Studio and Production I.G. Are you pumped for season 3? What events of the manga are you most looking forward to seeing on the small screen? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
