The last time we saw S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury was just a year ago in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Samuel L. Jackson didn’t spend too much time on screen, so we were hoping to get a glimpse of him in Captain America: Civil War May 6 (since he played an integral role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier ) . Jackson confirmed that’s not happening, but he will return for Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 in 2018.

"I think I'm in Avengers 3 and 4 , but I'm not in Civil War, ” Jackson told Fandango at CinemaCon.

Nick Fury has been the glue that holds everything together since the first Iron Man when he pops up in the post-credits scene to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative. He’s since appeared in Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron in some capacity.

Jackson revealed he wouldn't be part of MCU’s Phase III kickoff last June, and also filled us in on what Fury may be doing during Civil War instead.

“I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are,” the actor told Collider.

Rumors went around that Samuel L Jackson would reprise his role for Thor: Ragnarok, but that now seems unlikely considering his latest statements and the fact he just has two films left in his contract. The two-part Avengers: Infinity War concludes in 2019.
