The DC FanDome event started strong as it kicked off with a panel for the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 film. After that wrapped up, the event then followed with an announcement from Warner Bros. Games Montreal for its upcoming Gotham Knights game.
The best way to describe Gotham Knights is that it’s a Batman game that technically doesn’t really have Batman in it. In Gotham Knights, Batman has initiated Code Black, which means that he’s already dead. With how thorough Batman is when it comes to planning, he knows that once the criminal underground realizes that he’s gone, there’s definitely going to be a lot of chaos. In order to protect Gotham and restore order, he has called on his allies to be the new watchful eyes of the city.
Before we go further, you can watch and enjoy the reveal trailer below:
In a post, WB Games Montreal shared that this game “has been years in the making” and added that “all the hard work and passion that has been put into this project shows in every detail.” This third-person action RPG game can be played solo or through online co-op, which is limited to a maximum of two players. That means there’s going to be no local co-op or split-screen.
So who are these Gotham Knights? There’s Dick Grayson, who was the first Robin. An optimist, Grayson is a natural leader and is considered as the most charismatic of the Bat Family. Since becoming Robin, Grayson has managed to move on and has since taken on the identity of Nightwing.
Then there’s Barbara Gordon, who’s the daughter of former Gotham City Police Commission James Gordon. Barbara was put in a wheelchair, but after the death of her father, she trainer and managed to recover in order to again take up the mantle of Batgirl.
The third Knight is the anti-hero Jason Todd. Killed violently by Joker during his time as Robin, he was resurrected forcibly by one of Batman’s most dangerous foes. He went on to become a threat to criminals in Gotham as the Red Hood. He has since managed to reconcile with the Batman Family and went back to using non-lethal combat methods.
Finally, we have Tim Drake, who also became Robin. He is the youngest of the four, but is the smartest and a master when it comes to deductive reasoning. In fact, Tim early on had learned the true identities of Batman as Bruce Wayne and the then Robin as Grayson.
It wasn’t all a reveal trailer however, as WB Games Montreal also gave everyone a quick look in the gameplay. You can watch that video here.
Did we mention as well that Gotham Knights also pointed to a possible involvement by the Court of Owls? Doesn't that make it more exciting?
Gotham Knights is set to be released in 2021 for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. It’s also going to be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
