It’s always sad to know when a game’s life has come to an end. The most recent game to end development is Battleborn, the game from Gearbox everyone thought was an Overwatch clone, but it wasn’t really. It was just boring and bad.
This news comes from a posting by Creative Director Randy Varnell on the official Battleborn forums. According to Varnell, there is no planned content after the Fall Update, and any future changes or news will be posted on the forums or the Gearbox social media channels. Battleborn servers will continue to be supported, so fans of the online shooter can keep playing.
The reason for the cease in development, according to Varnell, is because the team is going to work on the next game from Gearbox, which isn’t announced, but is almost definitely Borderlands 3.
“If you’ve been paying attention to recent news from the Gearbox Panel at PAX West, you’ll have heard that many folks at Gearbox are working on a highly anticipated project,” wrote Varnell in the post. “Although I’m sad my time on Battleborn is coming to a close, I’m happy to announce that I will play a significant role on this highly anticipated but unannounced game, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing some from me again in the future regarding Gearbox games.”
If you’re curious what will be included in the Fall Update, Varnell mentioned some new skins that are themed around some fan-favorite Borderlands characters. There will also be updated title art for the more significant in-game challenges, added Finisher Boosts, new Taunts and minor balancing changes. More information on the update will be posted on the Battleborn forums closer to release.
