Battlefield 1 Battlepacks are getting updated over the next few days, according to a recent news bulletin found within the game itself. Starting June 29, Battlepacks will be rewarded based on how long combatants play and the skill they exhibit during those sessions. Here’s the most important part of the message:
“You will find a new progress bar at the End Of Round screen, showing your progress towards your next Standard Battlepack reward. Playing and finishing Battlefield 1 multiplayer matches will fill up the meter. Play well, and you'll reach your next Battlepack even faster.
“This update will roll out to players starting June 29. You may need to restart Battlefield 1 for the change to take effect.”
This contrasts heavily with the randomized system that’s currently in place. Since the game’s launch last fall, Battlepacks have been rewarded by the luck of the draw at the end of a skirmish. While it’s true Battlepack rewards don’t exactly have a major impact on what happens in the rest of the game, it was very frustrating to sometimes sit through several rounds without a single reward. Especially if you were grinding for Puzzle Pieces or trying to spend as little Scrap as possible, the system simply didn’t work.
In many ways, the forthcoming Battlepack update is probably the version of the feature that should’ve been in place from day one. For simplicity’s sake, it just makes sense. Those who play Battlefield 1 for a longer time at a higher skill level should be rewarded for that commitment. Giving those top-tier folks greater access to skins, XP boosts and melee weapons is only fair.
For what it’s worth, this Battlepack fix isn’t the only time an issue with the game’s loot box system has been resolved. In the months after release, players were unable to redeem Battlepacks due to specific error messages. In contrast to that mandatory solution, this week’s is all about providing a quality of life enhancement for the existing Battlefield 1 audience. Especially as the game starts to fade into legacy territory, it’s an appreciated change of heart.
This small Battlepack adjustment arrives just about a week after Battlefield 1’s scheduled June update. While most of the patch’s overall fixes were fairly small, it added the Best Squad screen to the end of multiplayer matches, as well as the premium trench-based Nivelle Nights map. It also brought the They Shall Not Pass DLC Frontlines mode to a couple non-DLC maps .
In the long term, Battlefield 1 players have September’s In The Name Of The Tsar DLC expansion to look forward to. The season pass content offers access to six new maps, 11 weapons, two gadgets, the Supply Drop game mode and female playable soldier options. It was heavily featured during EA Play at E3 2017.
Battlefield 1 is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
