With a new Star Wars Battlefront on the horizon and a year of Battlefield 1 DLC already online, we wouldn’t blame anyone who’d assumed the EA Play 2017 Live Show wouldn’t have any major news for the Battlefield community. But DICE still has plans for its World War 1 shooter, which counts more than 20 million players worldwide. And in a few months, In The Name Of The Tsar will send the Battlefield 1 community to the Russian Front.
The amount of content coming to Battlefield 1 later this year is a bit shocking, considering DICE also has a pair of free night maps in the pipeline. According to EA, In The Name Of The Tsar will include weapons and vehicles, including the Mosin-Nagant M91 and the Putilov-Garford Heavy Armored Car. Russia’s infamous Women’s Battalion of Death will be represented, via the Scout class, and the Battlefield 1 expansion will also include six new multiplayer maps. EA and DICE are only talking about four of the new environments this week but says we can expect more information on the final two maps before In The Name Of The Tsar is released.
Here’s what we know about the first four locales:
• Lupkow Pass: Fight in the snow-covered ravines of the treacherous Lupkow Pass. Against this dramatic backdrop, the vertical fights are as bitter as the cold.
• Albion: Partake in the skirmishes of the Albion assault in a freezing archipelago. In this massive invasion of the Baltic peninsula, the German Empire attacks with infantry, dreadnoughts, and aircraft against the heavy coastal gun batteries of the Russian forces.
• Galicia: In the midst of the epic Brusilov Offensive, the Russian Empire is fighting to push back the Austro-Hungarian forces in the Russian countryside. Take on an open map focused on infantry, cavalry, and light vehicles.
• Brusilov Keep: The Russians have pushed their enemy into a small mountain town, but the Austro-Hungarians are making a strong stand. Experience close-quarter fights by the Carpathians on an infantry-focused map.
Battlefield 1: In The Name Of The Tsar will also introduce a new match type, Supply Drop. As the name implies, teams will battle each other to recover supplies dropped sporadically from planes flying overhead. The contents of each crate won’t be known until they’re opened. But EA says players will find “everything needed to outgun and outscore your opponents.”
