Among all of the announcements and trailers to come out of EVO 2017, the latest Blazblue game announcement from Arc System Works has taken the fighting game community by storm especially with the inclusion of Ruby Rose from the Rooster Teeth anime RWBY. The trailer was released following the final of the BlazBlue Central Fiction tournament.
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle will continue the franchise’s 2D fighting style with a roster filled with anime-style characters from television and video games. Check out the announcement trailer below.
The first Blazblue Cross Tag Battle trailer confirms the fighting game will feature Yu from Persona 4 Ultimate Arena, Ragna the Bloodedge from BlazBlue, Hyde from Under Night In-Birth, and Ruby Rose from RWBY. Arc System Works promised after the trailer released that there are more reveals to come.
RWBY is the first American-produced anime and is created by Monty Oum and the Rooster Teeth team. At New York Comic-Con 2016 , the RWBY team actually teased a foray into fighting games using the RWBY characters after the release of RWBY Grimm Eclipse. Stating that the style of the fighting game will be like Blazblue than Mortal Kombat.
Arc System Works didn’t specify when Blazblue Cross Tag Battle will come out or whether the game will come out for all consoles but it’s safe to assume that the fighting game will appear on PS4 and Xbox One. Whether the game will show up on Nintendo Switch is not yet known, but the hybrid console does have the capability to handle the 2D fighting game with that art style (just look at Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers).
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle will release for console in 2018.
