Ilana Glazer, one half of the Broad City duo, revealed more details on her upcoming Comedy Central miniseries, Time Traveling Bong. Speaking to a Q&A panel at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, Glazer responded to Marie Claire editor-in-chief and panel moderator Anne Fulenwider’s inquiry about the new show.
“It’s about these two mediocre, very average white people - these two cousins - who travel through time, and only through time travel do they become above average,” said Glazer. “They learn a lot… like anybody who is not a white dude can’t time travel,” she continued, earning enthusiastic laughs from the audience.
Glazer agreed with Fulenwider’s suggestion that Time Traveling Bong was “kind of political,” but the three-part miniseries will mostly be executed as a comedy. Along with Glazer, Time Traveling Bong was developed by Broad City writers Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello. Aniello is also directing.
An official synopsis from Comedy Central's press release reads: Time Traveling Bong centers on two cousins, played by Glazer and Downs, who discover a time traveling bong and ride high as they blaze through time. Their buzz is killed when the bong breaks and the cousins are forced to bounce around the space time continuum, learning to appreciate there’s no time like the present.
Time Traveling Bong airs its first episode on April 20 (duh) after the season three finale of Broad City. The next and final two installments will premiere the following two days at 10:30 p.m. ET.
