Treyarch Studios recently announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will include a brand new storyline for its Zombies mode. This four-player co-op Zombies mode is set to take veterans and newbies through a terrifying journey.
The new Zombies storyline features a new cast of characters, new ways to progress, classic fan-favorite Perks, and an arsenal of Cold War weaponry. The new Die Maschine map is set in the early ‘80s. Fans will recognize that this comes before Nacht der Untoten, the map that started Zombies storyline.
Cold War will be the first time Zombies will release without Jason Blundell, the co-studio head, and Zombies mode director. More information on Jason Blundell’s departure can be found over here.
Some of the new updates to Black Ops Cold War Zombies include:
Battle Pass Progression and Loadouts
Players will progress through the Battle Pass as they spend more time playing Zombies, it will be similar to its multiplayer counterpart.
Weapon Rarity
All weapons will be sorted by rarity. The more rare the weapon, the more damage it deals to enemies. With the Pack-a-Punch machine returning to Zombies, players can transform their weapons resulting in them becoming much more powerful. Players can acquire weapons either through the Mystery Box or wall buys.
Field Upgrades
Field Upgrades is a new feature to Zombies that allows players to add abilities that aid in reviving, healing, or even escaping the horde. More details on Field Upgrades will be revealed closer to the launch of Cold War, but this is meant to help players through various situations.
Equipment
Equipment is pretty common in every Zombies mode. This includes lethal and tactical equipment such as grenades, claymores, and other items.
Perks
Classic fan-favorite Perks such as Juggernog and Speed Cola will return to Cold War with some small visual changes to match the setting of the game. Treyarch has confirmed that players can buy every perk, which means players can run six perks at a time.
Exfiltration
Black Ops Cold War Zombies provides a new option that allows players to escape the horde instead of fighting it. “If the whole squad is in trouble, you can opt to exfiltrate the undead combat zone via helicopter,” Call of Duty lead writer James Mattone said in a PlayStation Blog post. “Although zombie spawns will be dialed up to 11, you should expect to earn some rewards if your squad completes this final push to survive.”
