It's time for Call of Duty: Warzone fans to get excited as the latest Activision blog announced the introduction of a brand-new mode called Kingslayer, which will be releasing sometime during Season 5. The Kingslayer mode will take place in Verdansk and it is said to feel similar to the standard battle royale mode, but there are some new rules making the game a lot more fast-paced and aggressive.
Warzone's Season 5 midseason update is releasing today, which will add a bunch of new content including new weapons, game modes, trials, and more. The major highlight of the update is the Kingslayer mode, which will be available during Season 5, but the exact date remains unclear.
The Battle Royale genre is a mode in itself, and Warzone already has a bunch of other interesting game modes beyond the basics, like Plunder. Moving away from the basic formula of Warzone could have serious repercussions on how the game plays. Surprisingly, the Kingslayer mode seems to add a ton of fun into the BR genre by remaining loyal to the BR mode while also introducing new concepts and gameplay elements to the mix.
The Kingslayer mode is essentially a deathmatch under a Battle Royale hood. The closing circle still plays an important role in combat. However, instead of converging into a particular location, the circle will now move from place to place, forcing players to remain with the circle's radius and close to other players. Now, given how certain locations in Warzone are similar to multiplayer maps, the Kingslayer mode could have an interesting effect on gameplay.
The major aspect of the Kingslayer mode is the King mechanic. The top five teams' top players will be marked as kings. Taking these kings out will result in an extra point and a free killstreak. This mechanic will force players to seek out other players instead of being overcautious and camping throughout the game. The kings will also be marked on the Tac-map, preventing them from being hidden while they are donning the title.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
