The latest trailer for Call of Duty: WWII has released, and shows off the story from the single-player campaign. This trailer makes the story look riveting and the historical shooter’s strong visuals are on display as well. The full trailer can be watched above.
The story of Call of Duty: WWII follows Private Ronald “Red” Daniels as he makes his way through the European theater of the war. Action starts in Normandy on D-Day and continues through the Allies’ march into Germany. Other notable locations, like the Hürtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge, also make appearances during the campaign. It almost seems like this game will be a retread of Band of Brothers, but that’s not such a bad thing.
Based on the trailer, it seems Red is either Jewish or fights alongside Jewish members of the U.S. Army who are dragged away and forced onto trains by Nazi soldiers. This means players will likely fight their way to concentration camps to liberate those held prisoner by the Nazi regime.
An interesting observation I had while watching the trailer is that there are as many scenes away from the front lines as there are scenes on it. This means Call of Duty: WWII won’t just be a shooty-shooty, non-stop action game. There will be moments of calm between battles to deliver dramatic moments such as mustachioed generals hyping up soldiers for what they are about to do.
The only major gripe I have about the trailer is how brown it is. Unfortunately, this is probably more accurate than not, with soldiers fighting through dirt, snow and mud across Europe. It’s not like armies were dressing up in neon outfits either.
That said, this trailer has me even more excited to try out Call of Duty: WWII. Thankfully, the wait isn’t too long - Call of Duty: WWII releasing for PS4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 3.
