Capcom, a giant of the gaming industry, has decided on more comprehensive support for PC after finally and officially recognizing its importance as a gaming platform.
Haruhiro Tsujimoto, Capcom’s current COO, released this message to investors that communicates Capcom’s new-found interest in expanding to PC. In the message, Tsujimoto mentions that the sales ratios of their gaming titles and their eventual ports to PC have seen annual improvements, so much so that expansion to PC “cannot be overlooked.”
The revelation of Capcom regarding the importance of PC strikes most as being better late than never, and the decision is hardly surprising. After the huge success of Monster Hunter: World, which launched for PS4 and Xbox One back in January 2018, the publisher released a PC port of the game which launched on Steam sometime in August of that year. The results were overwhelmingly positive. Just hours after its launch on PC, the latest Monster Hunter title became one of the biggest launches in the history of the Steam platform, and the biggest Japanese game launch of all time on Steam, crushing the record set by Dark Souls 3 in 2016. Seeing the massive success of the game on PC, as well as the great success seen by many of its PC ports over the years ( including Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 4, Onimusha Warlords, the recent remaster of Resident Evil 2, and more) it seems now is a good time to focus their efforts on expanding their support for the PC platform.
Capcom’s focus on expanding and improving its support for PC is evident in the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 launch, where the PC version will launch alongside the console versions of the long-awaited addition to the Devil May Cry series.
